Packaging Engineer (Huntingburg, IN)

OFS is seeking a talented and innovative Packaging Engineer to join our Design Solutions team in Huntingburg, Indiana.  Reporting to the Director of Design Solutions and working in collaboration with various internal teams, the Packaging Engineer will be responsible for creating innovative, cost-efficient packaging designs with a central focus on developing customer-friendly packing solutions for residential customers. 



  • Research, identify, and pilot new technologies and methodologies to improve current packaging designs and processes
  • Prepare engineering data to support and propose strategies and solutions to management for review
  • Design packaging components and develop packaging systems for existing products and/or product lines in compliance with industry and OFS standards, including quality policies, practices and procedures
  • Conduct appropriate line trials and packaging validation and perform technical assessment and studies to support new products and initiatives
  • Maintain complete records of packaging process and equipment design activities, test data, and other pertinent information for each project
  • Develop and maintain material specifications for package components and prepare and maintain process specifications, including protocol development and related testing
  • Communicate with marketing and product development to coordinate packaging and labeling requirements for products being developed or modified
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for packaging-related issues with suppliers and within production, offering guidance, assistance and support where needed
  • Develop effective working network with outside vendors and manufacturers in order to leverage their resources in implementing packaging initiatives
  • Work with suppliers to sample components and establish quality parameters
  • Generate analysis and reports as needed to provide proactive communication to all cross-functional stakeholders

  • Degree in packaging, specialized experience in packaging, and current employment with responsibilities related to packaging a real plus
  • Familiarity with furniture manufacturing a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • AutoCAD or Solidworks a real plus
