Synovus Bank regional office

Project Overview

Synovus Bank has long prided itself on being a community and relationship-oriented financial institution, but with several offices dispersing teams across Columbus, Georgia, that sense of connection had room to grow. As their team expanded, leadership saw an opportunity: consolidate into a single building that could unite everyone from executives to marketing under one roof, and in doing so, better reflect who they are as an organization.

In partnership with Hendrick Inc. and a talented team of collaborators, they broke ground on a new building designed to bring those silos down. Situated across from the riverfront, the result is a thoughtfully crafted space that marks a meaningful new chapter for this regional office.

Design Vision

The central design ambition for this project was transparency, both as a value and as a visual language.
Synovus leadership wanted the new space to foster cross-pollination across departments, which meant two things had to be true: leadership needed to feel approachable, and team members needed to understand where they were and who was around them. The design responds to both.

Consistent floor plans across every level allow anyone (regardless of department) to orient themselves quickly whether they're at their own desk or visiting another team. From there, the design opens up. North and South Social Hubs anchor each floor as clear "we" spaces, giving teams a shared home base before branching out into their respective neighborhoods.

Shared conferencing and meeting spaces further encourage those cross-departmental collisions, while glass fronts on all private offices carry the transparency theme into even the most individual spaces. Natural light reaches every area of the building, a detail that ties the whole vision together.

Details that stand out

HarpinWhile the floor plans are consistent, the furniture is anything but repetitive. The design team deliberately varied selections floor to floor, building in flexibility and supporting meaningful choice throughout the space. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Social Hubs. A carefully considered mix of seating postures and palettes brings playfulness and flexibility to life, while subtle movement and protective shrouding in select seating choices reflect a thoughtful commitment to supporting neurodiverse team members.
The result is a workplace that earns its place in the community Synovus has always served — a space that empowers connection, inspires brand pride, and sets a strong foundation for the organization's future.

To me, furniture is as important as architecture.
